On 25 and 26 April 2025, the conference on the digitization of the Kurdish language will take place at the Kulturrathaus Dresden - organized by our cooperation partner, the German-Kurdish Forum (DKF e.V.).
The focus is on a central challenge:
How can the Kurdish language - in all its dialects - be made more visible, usable and scientifically sound in the digital age?
Together with linguists, developers, educational stakeholders and representatives of the diaspora, we will discuss standards, digital tools, AI models, didactics and the role of language in a globalized world.
After all, the Kurdish language is not just cultural heritage - it is the key to identity, education and social participation.
However, decades of political oppression, a lack of institutional support and a lack of technical infrastructure have meant that it often remains invisible in digital spaces.
This conference is a signal: together we are shaping a digital future for Kurmancî, Sorani and other dialects - open, scientific, future-oriented.
As part of the conference, we also spoke about our work at the International Kurdish University Germany (IKHS.DE) - a place where the Kurdish language is anchored in teaching and research. A place that not only preserves the language, but also thinks ahead - digitally, academically, interdisciplinarily.
